Laurinda D. Brown

Laurinda D. Brown is a native Memphian and graduate of Howard University who has been called a “literary juggernaut” by journalists and a “uniquely gifted storyteller” by critics. Laurinda successfully self-published her first novel, Fire and Brimstone, in 2001, which was optioned the next year with its sequel, UnderCover, by Strebor Books. Fire & Brimstone was selected as a national finalist for the coveted Lambda Literary Award for Best Debut Fiction in 2004. In 2006, Laurinda won the Lambda Literary Award for Best Lesbian Fiction for her collection of short stories, Walk Like A Man, which is also the title of her Off-Broadway production that has been optioned by theatre companies across the nation. Laurinda is also an English professor at Dillard University and Nunez Community College.
